Bios ... Rick Groat SAG-AFTRA Actor/director/producer
Actor. Over 60 films and TV shows. See resume IMDB. Producer/writer/director: 8 feature films, 4 TV commercials, 20 screenplays. Western performer/director/stunt director: Over 5,450 live shows, stunt director. Pro: Photographer, artist, illustrator, art teacher, horseman, bullwhip and trick shooting artist. Kung Fu instructor, teach of special need children. Western director, films, live shows, and TV. Owner/director/producer at Groat Family Productions.
As an actor, starting in 1962, with credits ranging from a background extra to starring roles giving me over 50 years experience. Some of my work can be seen on TV shows like Wild West Tech where I played many cowboy types or on the back of a horse in other westerns like Brothers in Arms where I portrayed a gunfighter. I am a member of Screen Actors Guild but have also worked in many other areas of film production including behind the scenes as well as in front of the camera. I also have performed a great number of live shows with my family show, the Groat Family Wild West Show.
My film credits and star roles include Terror on Shadow Mountain(director/producer/writer/star), Eagles Law (producer/star) Devil Rider (producer/star), and How the west was lost (co producer/star). And now working on my films with my family company “Groat Family Productions”. Three of my films now in development and pre production are “Ride The Wanted Trail”, “Deadly Attraction”, and Copperhead Creek”, that my company will produce in the new year, and many ongoing productions.
Over the years, I have had the opportunity to work with many talented people and have learned my craft from my own experiences, from fellow film makers, and from my own family. My mother, Gypsy Bell Groat, was a child actor for MGM in the 1940s, and my Grandfather, Clifford Groat, was a director for the old silent films and early talkies at Pathé Studios. I grew up wanting to be an actor. I wrote, produced, and directed my fist film - The Shooting - Story of the Kane Brothers, that won 12 awards from The Southern CA Motion Picture Association. I made the film with my family, and it was my first production as an independent film. As a producer and director I have written several scripts, produced and directed my own features, film shorts, videos, and films for other producers. I also work as an educator with special needs children, and I love my work.
Most importantly, I am a father and husband, and enjoy and consider that work to be most important. I love to tell a good story, and I also sometimes illustrate children's books. My goal is to continue to make good films, mostly westerns, work with good people, and enjoy the ride.
“I see our western film history as an important part of our American roots, and one of the foundations of our artistic culture.” — Rick Groat.
