The Shooting story of the Kane Brothers is a beautiful old time family western movie, shot in the style of films of the 1930's—black and white, with heroes and bad guys, action, shootouts, and a love story. The film has all the look and flavor of such films as early Lone Ranger, and The Big Trail, with old Hollywood type wardrobe and big hats, and the characters are much like Tom Mix, or early John Wayne. The action is in the same manner, with lots of good old fist fighting scenes and horse chases, and the big shootout scene that arrives at the end of the story is everything a western fan could want. There is a love story within the plot, with warm and heart felt tones. Does the hero gets the girl at the end? This film has rough and tumble action, with a man of few words leading (Gabe Kane), an Andy Devine sort of sidekick comic (Luke Kane), a very mean and nasty villain (Bill Keegon), and a sweet look and feel that of the old western classics that gives the viewer a genuine example of old time filmmaking. The Shooting, Story of the Kanes, is authentically filmed on 16 mm, just like they did it in the '30s, and it is not only a good film, but a tribute to the old time western movie.

From the days of yesteryear.
It is 1887, the old west, in a small town. The Kane brothers (Gabe and Luke) are the town sheriffs, who work hard to keep the peace. Gabe falls in love with a girl (Ann), who goes against her father's orders to stay away from Gabe, and the two plan to marry. Ann's father (Bill Keegon) is outraged, and has Gabe whipped and beaten, but Gabe and Ann will not let anything stand in their way. When Keegon's son kills a man during a hold up, Gabe must choose between his duty and his feelings for Ann, and he will not stray from doing his job, even bringing in Ann's brother who is now wanted for murder. This creates bad blood between the Kanes and Bill Keegon, owner of the Bar-K ranch. Keegon sends a hired gun to stop Gabe, but his plan does not work, and being a man who always gets what he wants, Keegon brings all his Bar-K men in for the showdown. Gabe and Luke are now in a fight to keep the peace, law, and order, and a fight that will test all that they are. The Kane brothers (Gabe and Luke), and their father John walk alone in the street. The town is still. Three men step into the old corral to face the wrath of the Bar-K, 21 men who are there for one reason only: to gun down the Kanes. They all stand quietly, the wind blows slightly. For a moment all is silent as the wind stops, and the last sound they might ever hear is the clicking of their guns. To join the FILM FAN CLUB and see more history go here. |

The original vision of the writer/director: The idea was to make a western like the ones I grew up watching as a child during the 50s. We gazed at the small TV screens, rooting for our heroes, like Gary Cooper and John Wayne, and characters like Hoppy, the Lone Ranger, and Annie Oakley. The stories had distinct and clear good guys and bad guys, and the good guys fought for what was right, and kids could look up to these characters. I wanted to make a film that I would be proud of, and with that in mind, and my love for the old west, I wrote the script, gathered my family and friends, and I said to myself, (if William S. Hart could do it, so can I), and made the film. Around two months later, I had finished filming, and was in the process of editing when I was invited to the B-western film festival, and I decided to screen the film in its rough cut form (due to the short time before the event). I felt it should be seen, and folks might like it. After the screening, my crew and I were invited to the awards event in Hollywood from the Southern California Motion Picture Council, and the film (even in its rough cut stage) won 12 awards. The story of producing our film was featured on television on Entertainment Tonight with Dixie Watley. This movie is a great story, and should be viewed, and take its place in the artistic works of fellow film makers. Real western action, a warm and exciting story with classic characters with traditional values, real and impressive western stunts and action, no bad language, and a tender love story and interesting plot that you can watch with your whole family.
